Vibert Noble | Eclipse Chaser

About

Vibert Noble

Vibert Noble was born in Guyana; he came to live in the UK as a child with his parents, and for the last four years he has lived with his wife in the picturesque Vale of Belvoir. The name ‘Belvoir’ derives from the Norman-French word for ‘beautiful view’. The vale boasts the UK’s very first community radio station, which first went on air in 2005.

A keen traveller, Vibert makes regular trips to Lapland and La Palma in the Canary Islands. The latter (also known as La Isla Bonita) incorporates ancient laurisilva forests, volcanic landscapes and a spectacular land erosion crater, the Caldera de Taburiente. Its protected dark night skies and network of footpaths make it a perfect destination for star gazing and walking, things that Vibert loves. He has also visited Svalbard in the Arctic, taken a number of road trips across the United States and enjoyed a train journey on the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco.

Vibert has developed an interest in eclipse chasing. There was a long time between his first eclipse in Cornwall in 1999 and the second in the Faroes in 2015. He has since travelled to Indonesia (2016), the Pacific Northwest of the United States (2017), Antarctica (2021) and Mexico (2024). He is anticipating traveling to Spain, Egypt, and Australia or New Zealand in 2026, 2027 and 2028 respectively in order to experience the next total solar eclipses.

In his free time, Vibert undertakes a wide range of hobbies, including practicing tai chi twice weekly, walking in his local area, supporting his local cricket team the Trent Rockets and visiting the cinema and theatre. He is a long-time supporter of Crystal Palace F.C. and travels to watch his team play around 10 times each season.
